Oulton Park geared up for Gold Cup festival

Sunday, August 29 2010

Oulton Park is all set for its annual feast of nostalgia, the Gold Cup, this Bank Holiday weekend (29/30 August).

A huge array of cars are set to compete this weekend, with over 480 vehicles entered in various categories.

Today kicks off at 10.00am with a parade of Audi Quattros to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this iconic car that saw great success in the world of rallying, and fittingly, the cars will take to the Oulton Park rally stages at 3.00pm.

The first contest of the day will be an hour race for the GT and Sports Car Club, with cars ranging from Lotuses to Jaguars.

A race for historic Grand Prix cars from the 1950s and 1960s will take place at 2.20pm today, featuring classic examples from Lotus, Cooper and BRM.

A further nine races will be held today, and another eight tomorrow - including the Legends Sir Stirling Moss Trophy which will feature Sir Stirling himself, driving an OSCA sports car carrying his familiar number seven.

The action tomorrow will start at 8.30am with practice for the Guards Trophy, with racing beginning at 12.00pm.

Throughout the weekend there will be demonstrations of historic machinery, including displays from Group C Le Mans cars tomorrow and Sir Stirling Moss will parade the Ferguson P99 four wheel drive F1 car in which he won the Gold Cup in 1961.

Off-track highlights include fantastic displays of over 900 classic cars, including exhibits from Rolls Royce, Morgan and Jaguar.

Tickets for the Oulton Park Gold Cup on 29/30 August are available on the gate for £21 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
