Three decades of rally machinery thrill crowds at Oulton Park

Sunday, August 29 2010

The action at the Oulton Park Gold Cup is not just on track, as fans at the Cheshire circuit have been finding out.

The rally stages have been thriving with activity throughout the day, with crowds flocking to see thirty years of history being put through their paces on the low grip surface.

A huge mixture of cars have been giving demonstrations, with machinery ranging from classic Ford Cortinas, Minis and Ford Escorts to slightly more unorthodox rally equipment including Porsche 911s and Ferrari 308s.

The cars being demonstrated are from the MSA British Historic Rally Championship and the Rallying with Group B organisation.

Fans have been thrilled by the epic sideways action that these classic cars are still capable of, with some even taking advantage of a temporary water splash created by the heavy early morning rain.

Several examples of the Audi Quattro, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary at the Oulton Park Gold Cup have also been giving demonstrations.

Further action on the rally stage will take place tomorrow at 10.00am, 1.00pm, and 3.30pm, with the Audi Quattros giving their second rally parade of the weekend at 3.00pm.

The rally stage activity combined with the massive car displays and thrilling on track action from historic racing machinery have made the Gold Cup an unmissable event for fans of historic racing.

Tickets for the Oulton Park Gold Cup on 29/30 August are available on the gate for £21 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
