Moore continues dominance at Oulton Park

Friday, July 23 2010

Nigel Moore continued his fantastic start to the weekend at Oulton Park by topping the timesheets in free practice two - Moore this time enjoying a gap of just over four tenths of a second over the rest of the field.

Having also topped the opening practice session by a similarly impressive margin, Moore will go into tomorrow in confident mood as he bids to haul in Maxime Jousse's current 39 point lead in the overall championship.

In what was ultimately a slower second session despite glorious sunshine around the Cheshire venue, Ash Davies was the man who came closest to matching Moore's benchmark - the Welshman improving upon his showing in opening practice to set a 1:37.470s.

That shaded Howard Fuller's best effort by just over one tenth of a second, with the Briton enjoying a hugely impressive session to take third - having also improved on his morning's effort.

Melroy Heemskerk, third in the opening free practice session, finished seven hundredths of a second behind Fuller in fourth. Heemskerk had enjoyed an early battle with Nigel Moore, suggesting he could well be a candidate for the victories in tomorrow's races.

As Nigel Moore continued to fly at the front, his chief title rival Maxime Jousse could only manage fifth in the second session, his best effort exactly half a second slower than in the morning.

Jose Alonso Liste headed an incredibly tight three-way fight for sixth, as Kieron Vernon finished just two hundredths of a second behind the Spaniard - with Ramon Pineiro less than a tenth of a second behind in eighth.

Vincent Beltoise finished an assured ninth, just over a second off Nigel Moore's ultimate pace, while Luca Orlandi - who had shadowed Ash Davies for much of the session - rounded out the top ten.

Callum Holland, who has been suffering from gastric flu in the build up to this weekend, was unable to take part in the session - leaving James Thorp and Giuseppe Cipriani to complete the top 12. Mark Powell, competing in his first event of the 2010 FPA season, finished 13th.
