Local heroes rev up for BTCC home round

Friday, June 04 2010

As Oulton Park gears up for round four of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend (5/6 June), two drivers in particular are on the hunt for strong results, as the Tarporley circuit marks their home round.

Fans' favourite Sunshine.co.uk's Paul O'Neill hails from Widnes in Cheshire and the affable 30-year-old is vying for strong points finishes in his BTC-spec Honda Integra.

"I'm confident that we'll do our usual and score points in all three races," said O'Neill, who scored his maiden BTCC victory at Oulton Park in 2002. "We now need to take a step forward in qualifying and put a good lap together to get inside the top eight and then bring home at least one finish in the top four on raceday. To get on the podium at Oulton Park would be great!"

Another local hero hoping for strong results on home soil is Special Tuning UK SEAT's Tom Boardman from Forton near Preston. 26-year-old Boardman, who returned to the BTCC in 2010 after two seasons in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, has been gathering support from motorsport fans around Lancashire by holding autograph sessions and displaying his car at shopping centres in Preston and Lancaster.

O'Neill and Boardman will take on tough competition including joint championship leaders Honda Racing's Matt Neal and Silverline Chevrolet's Jason Plato when the BTCC gets underway at Oulton Park tomorrow (Saturday) with free practice one at 9.35am.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park this weekend (5/6 June) are available on the gate for £12 for adults on qualifying day (Saturday) and £29 on raceday (Sunday). Entry is free for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
