Oulton Park calls on local women to lace up their running shoes!

Monday, June 14 2010

Oulton Park is encouraging women in the north west to lace up their running shoes ready for the first ever all-female half marathon event at the Tarporley circuit on Sunday 11 July.

'The Better Half' is a 13.1 mile race to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign and Ovarian Cancer Action and is open to woman of all ages and all levels of running experience.

In addition to an individual half marathon event, there will also be a relay race open to teams of three females, for runners who want to be part of the unique event without completing the full distance.

Pauline Beare, co-founder of event organiser the Women's Running Network, said: "The whole ethos of the Women's Running Network is about inclusion and we couldn't put on an event that didn't offer everyone the chance to get involved. When we staged our first Better Half in April, the relay was extremely popular and we had such a lot of positive feedback that we're hoping it'll be even bigger and better at Oulton Park."

Competitors will complete three laps of the Oulton Park venue, running along a specially-designed course that incorporates parts of the circuit as well as the surrounding pathways and picturesque parkland areas.

Entries for this unique event are still open and women interested in taking part can find out more by visiting www.womensrunningnetwork.co.uk.

The next racing event at Oulton Park is this weekend's BARC Club Car Championships. Tickets are available from £10 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
