Brookes: I want to go one better in 2011!

Sunday, October 10 2010

Josh Brookes took second place in the final MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship race of the season at Oulton Park which elevated him to second in the overall standings, after he threatened to challenge his HM Plant Honda team-mate for the victory.

Brookes had a tough opening lap which dropped him down the order, but the HM Plant Honda rider fought back hard and moved up the order as he moved to second and within striking distance of race leader Ryuichi Kiyonari. Brookes put in a determined charge but it wasn't enough and he took second, which was enough to move him second overall and now the Australian has hinted he will return in 2011.

Brookes said: "In race two I didn't get a good start and I think I clipped the kerb going into the first corner and then it all was pretty mad and I dropped down the pack. We had made a slight change from the first race and it meant that I had the confidence to really push it. I was catching Kiyo but I just couldn't get that final bit, but it was a good race to finish the year with a podium, but I really wanted the championship win. I suppose it is something to come back for next season!"
