Hill storms to pole ahead of race one

Saturday, October 09 2010

Championship leader Tommy Hill stormed to his sixth pole position of the season at Oulton Park, setting a blistering lap under the lap record to take the top spot ahead of the opening race later this afternoon.

Hill said: "That was a good qualifying session and I am happy with the race pace we have for this afternoon after a bit of a tough day yesterday. I am up for the race and ready to go out and try to win this afternoon."

Hill stole the top spot in the opening qualifying session, edging narrowly ahead of Kiyonari who moved up the order in the closing stages after a quick stint in the garage to make some last minute tweaks. Gary Mason put in a lap to put the MSS Colchester Kawasaki third fastest with Michael Rutter and James Ellison completing the top five.

In Q2 the Title Fighters upped the ante and dipped for the first time under the 1m:36s lap time as Hill lapped under record pace for the Worx Crescent Suzuki team with a time of 1m:35.226s, just toppling Kiyo by 0.189s. Ellison was again inside the top three with Michael Rutter and Josh Brookes rounding out the top five. Alastair Seeley will start from the fourth row in sixteenth for the opening race this afternoon.

In Q3 the pressure was on and John Laverty crashed in the opening minutes at Knickerbrook to end his hopes of moving up the order on the Buildbase Kawasaki. Hill was showing his impressive pace and he edged out Kiyonari who pushed him all the way who will start from second. Ellison and Michael Laverty complete the front row whilst Rutter will start seventh, with Josh Brookes on row three from ninth.
