Gordon Shedden quickest in first BTCC practice session

Saturday, June 04 2011

Honda Racing's Gordon Shedden posted the fastest time in the first practice session for this weekend's British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park.

The Scotsman posted a time of one minute and 27.558 seconds to head team-mate Matt Neal by nearly four tenths of a second, as the Honda pair look to continue their early season form that has seen at least one win for the team in each of the three meetings so far this year.

The Silverline Chevrolet team were next up, with Jason Plato back on the pace, albeit eight tenths off the fastest time. Alex MacDowall was less than a tenth behind in fourth. Recent rule changes have been designed to help normally-aspirated cars such as the Chevrolets and this weekend will be a test of these adjustments.

Andrew Jordan, Rob Collard and Mat Jackson were all within a second of Shedden's time, the Vectra, BMW and Focus in fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively. Jackson and Jordan are second and fourth in the championship standings and will be hoping for a good weekend to improve their prospects for the season.

Tom Chilton, James Nash and Andy Neate completed the top ten, ahead of this afternoon's second practice session at 12:45. Qualifying for this weekend's rounds will take place at 15:15.
