Winstanley and Ruhan take GT Trophy victories at Oulton Park

Sunday, May 15 2011

Oulton Park hosted MSVR's 'Blast in the Park' meeting last Saturday (14 May) and, with heavy clouds looming, it was to turn into a rather mixed up day.

In the opening race from the GT Trophy, Alex Martin threw away the chance of victory when he lost control of his Porsche 997 GT3 at Shell Oils corner. Danny Winstanley, who had started back in 6th place was then gifted glory in his TVR Sagaris, taking overall honours. That was the last time anyone would see Martin, whos car couldnt be repaired in time for the second race.

Race two was a little simpler as, now front row man, Andy Ruhan driving a Porsche 997 GT3 led from the start - despite being held up by a short Safety Car period. Danny Winstanley shone yet again, climbing from 10th to finish 2nd, within one and a half seconds of Ruhan.

Elsewhere there were two wins for Manhal Allos in the SR8 class of the Radical UK Cup. SR3 was taken by Mark Smithson/Stuart Moseley and David Thorburn/Rob Wheldon, the latter clinching outright victory.

In the Lotus Elise Trophy, Luigi Valentino Mazza took a double with two fairly comfortable wins.

Mini Challenge victory went the way of Luke Caudle in a Cooper S and Antony Worton-Eales in the Cooper class. Race two turned into a washout with some cars caught out on slicks, the wins going to Lee Allen and a first for Dean Raymond.

In the Radical Clubman's Cup, Tony Wells took overall honours in race 1 followed closely - 0.731secs - by James Abbott. Race two saw Abbott split the front row on the run to Old Hall, and take a comfortable win in very wet conditions.

The next event at Oulton Park is the BARC Club Championships on Saturday 28 May. Tickets are now available for £10 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the link below.
