Nissan GTRs quickest in wet GT warm-up at Oulton Park

Monday, April 09 2012

The Nissan-powered RJN and JMH teams were quickest in the warm-up session ahead of this weekend's opening round of the 2012 British GT Championship at Oulton Park today (Monday). The GTR chassis proved to be very comfortable in the wet conditions, however the Trackspeed team took third in a rear-engined Porsche.

The cars joined a very wet track, with the rain continuing to fall, making conditions very tricky for the drivers. Early laptimes were twenty seconds slower than qualifying, with the Ashburn/Westbrook Trackspeed Porsche initially quickest.

The RJN Nissan, Parish/Tandy Motorbase Porsche, United Autosports Audi and JMH Nissan shaved seconds off the fastest time in the final moments of the ten minute session as the drivers adjusted to the slick surface. However as the flag was about to come out, the Rosso Verde Ferrari of Lester and Simonsen took third.

Meanwhile JMH improved to second, the Nissan chassis proving its prowess in the rain as the two teams running GTRs held the fastest warm-up times. The Ashburn/Westbrook Porsche upheld 911 honour by lapping within the same 1:15 bracket as the Japanese machines.

Fastest Ferrari was Rosso Verde's 458, with the quickest Motorbase Porsche fifth. Ecurie Ecosse took sixth with their BMW Z4, with the United Autosports Audi seventh. Preci-Spark's Mercedes joined the strong German contingent in the top ten with eighth, from the second Motorbase Porsche and Predator Ferrari 430. In GT4, the number 48 Evora of Glew and Bolisetti lapped under two minutes - considerably quicker than the WFR Ginetta.

The first British GT Championship race will take place at 10:55.
