Oulton Park visitors to benefit from winter improvements

Wednesday, January 11 2012

MSV has been carrying out improvements to the Oulton Park circuit during the winter break that will benefit both race meeting spectators and also participants in our driving experiences.

A new crossing point has been created at Deer Leap and spectators will no longer need to walk down to Lodge corner to cross the track in order to watch the start of races.

With the new crossing expected to be a popular addition, improvements have been made to the spectator area at Deer Leap, which will now include benches. For bigger events, including the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship and Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, a new refreshment outlet has been created.

"This should be a great picnic area for spectators," Circuit Manager Simon Bonser said. "We have made a crossing point near the grid meaning that spectators can cross the circuit much more easily to get to the best viewing spots. This whole area will be a car-free zone making it a safe and pleasant place for families to enjoy the action."

The circuit's off-road course is also currently undergoing changes to make the route more challenging, and it now incorporates a new cambered section. Taking advantage of the Land Rover Defender's unrivalled abilities, participants in our MudMaster experience will be astonished at how easily it copes with this new section.

The MudMaster course is found opposite the circuit's start/finish straight and creating the new cambered section has been possible thanks to the earth movement caused by the new crossing point.

Bonser was first to try out the new section: "it feels impossible to negotiate without the Land Rover Defender falling on its side," he said. "It feels very scary! We have added this obstacle next to the existing balancing beams and adjacent to the spectator viewing area, thus allowing families to watch their loved one try and negotiate these two formidable challenges."
