Hill’s last minute dash ahead of qualifying and race one

Saturday, July 07 2012

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill moved back to the top of the timesheets in the dry final free practice session at Oulton Park as the defending champion set the pace ahead of this afternoon's qualifying and opening race at the Cheshire circuit.

Hill had characteristically saved the best until last as he moved fastest in the final minute of the session, with double champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne also moving second in the closing seconds. Alex Lowes onboard the WFR Honda had been heading the pack until the final moments as he maintained his impressive pace from the opening two sessions yesterday despite the drastic change in conditions.

Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes who had set the pace yesterday was fourth fastest with Noriyuki Haga on the second Swan Yamaha also climbing the order to fifth. Ian Lowry was the first of the Hondas in sixth for Padgetts ahead of Jon Kirkham who suffered a technical problem with his Samsung liveried machine in the final five minutes. Graeme Gowland made it two WFR Honda Hondas inside the top ten with Michael Laverty and Chris Walker in ninth and tenth respectivly.
