Hill blasts to Oulton Park pole

Sunday, May 06 2012

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill scorched to his second pole position of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season at Oulton Park ahead of the Bank Holiday Monday race as he held off the challenges from Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Josh Brookes.

Swan Yamaha scored a double front row with Noriyuki Haga celebrating his first front row start of the season with a fourth place after holding the position from Tommy Bridewell on the Supersonic BMW.

Hill set the pace in the Q1 session from Lowes who leapt up the order in the final minutes to push Brookes back to third, just ahead of his team-mate Alastair Seeley. Graeme Gowland was fourth to put two WFR Hondas inside the top five with Byrne fifth.

Q2 started dramatically for Seeley who crashed on his first lap at Cascades as Hill again put in the fastest lap of the session to maintain his position at the top of the times ahead of the fastest rider from yesterday, Brookes.

The Samsung Honda's of Jon Kirkham and Michael Laverty were seventh and eighth respectively with Ian Lowry and Chris Walker rounding out the top ten.
