Hill leads Brookes as MCE BSB hits Oulton Park

MCE Insurance British Superbike champion Tommy Hill was back at the top of the times in the opening free practice session at Oulton Park this morning as the Swan Yamaha rider remained at the ahead of Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes.

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne had led the early stages of the session for the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team from Hill and Alex Lowes, but the number one machine of Hill was soon pushing ahead to move fastest.

Brookes was inside the top three in the closing stages, improving his time on the final lap of the Cheshire circuit to keep Byrne in third with Lowes fourth, despite running off track in the last 15 minutes of the session. His WFR Honda team-mate Graeme Gowland meanwhile crashed out unhurt at Knickerbrook.

Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki's Chris Walker held on to fifth from championship leader Ian Lowry, with the leading Samsung Honda of Michael Laverty seventh. James Westmoreland's final lap improvement moved him up to eighth and ahead of Noriyuki Haga who had been running inside the top four in the final ten minutes of the session. The second Padgetts Honda of Luca Scassa rounded out the top ten as Stuart Easton just dropped to eleventh in the final minute.
