Jordan steals BTCC practice top spot from Plato

Saturday, June 08 2013

Andrew Jordan salvaged some pride for Honda in second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship practice at Oulton Park today (Saturday), although Jason Plato showed impressive pace, leading the order for most of the session ahead of qualifying.

Colin Turkington and Sam Tordoff carried over their pace from the morning to lead the order in the opening moments of the session, before Matt Neal took over at the top of the table. The Pirtek Honda of Jordan also picked up the pace and in one lap took third place, before an even faster second tour to trail Neal by just three hundredths of a second.

However with a third of the session gone, Plato headed out for a flying lap and bettered Neal's time by nearly half a second, the double champion seemingly at ease with his MG on the circuit. Despite being a little off the morning's pace, no immediate attempts were being made to beat this marker but there was plenty of activity in the pitlane, with cars being set up for qualifying ahead of this afternoon's grid-deciding session.

First to improve in the late stages was Turkington, cutting a tenth off the deficit to Plato, before setting the bar for the first sector of the lap. However he elected to pit the BMW, certain of further improvements before the chequered flag was out.

Next it was the turn of Shedden, who was now within half a tenth of Plato, but Jordan was even faster, stealing the session as the chequered flag came out. Plato remained second from Shedden and Turkington, who was unable to improve further, whilst Sam Tordoff demoted Neal a further place. Dave Newsham, Frank Wrathall, Mat Jackson and Rob Collard completed the top ten.

Qualifying will take place at 15:15.
