Wrathall: “Oulton Park is probably the most special round of the year”

Saturday, June 01 2013

Preston's Frank Wrathall expects to turn his 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season around at Oulton Park next weekend (8/9 June). The Dynojet Toyota Avensis driver recorded his maiden win at the end of last year but has endured a tough start to 2013.

However Frank doesn't expect the pattern to continue. "I think at the first round we had a little bit of bad luck, he said. "But we did have a fairly strong start and we showed a lot of pace. I was able to come from 27th on the grid to 6th in the very first race of the season, so that put us in good stead and I think we all thought that we'd be running right at the front but unfortunately since then I've had a lot of drama.

"At Donington Park I narrowly missed out on pole position, showed a lot of pace there but we had a problem in the races and we had a fundamental problem in the car at Thruxton that we've found and got to the bottom of that. Every time I go out on track I give it my all, so it'll be no different.

Since the win at Brands Hatch last year little has changed in the team. "We've not made any radical changes to the car," Frank confirmed. "We've looked at every area and improved where we can and we're just waiting for an opportunity where everything falls into place and we can show that."

He expects to be back at his best on his home track: "Oulton Park is probably the most special round of the year for us with it being our local one. I get amazing support there, so I'm determined to turn the season round. There's going to be no difference in the approach because I just think things out of my control have dictated the results so far.

"I am a fan of Oulton Park purely for the atmosphere and it's a circuit that when you drive round you really get a sensation of how close the crowd is to the track and it always attracts one of the biggest crowds of the season. That, coupled with it being a local round and a lot of people I know there, it's definitely a special event and one that I'd be keen to get a good result."
