GBmoto Kawasaki sign Ellison and Walker for MCE BSB campaign

Thursday, October 31 2013

GBmoto Racing has strengthened their line up for the 2014 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship by confirming they have signed multiple race winners James Ellison and Chris Walker to spearhead their campaign.

The team will switch to Kawasaki machinery for the forthcoming season, as Ellison and Walker aim to add to their personal combined tally of 30 MCE BSB race wins and challenge for GBmoto Racing's maiden podium finish in the premier class. Ellison has previously been a Showdown contender and finished second in the 2009 championship whilst Walker, a race winner in World and British Superbikes, will be bidding to qualify for the top six after narrowly missing out in previous seasons.

Ellison said: "I'm really excited about this deal as I know how good this team is. I've watched the team progress and being up against the Kawasakis week in, week out, I know just how strong those bikes are, and I can't wait to get my leg over the new ZX-10R now as I've heard so many good things about it.  It's great to get a deal done so early; it gives us time to plan and test. Matt Llewellyn is a great crew chief so there are so many positives. It's an exciting time for me with a new baby on the way and I am excited for next year's BSB assault. I genuinely think together we are capable of fighting for the title."

Walker said: "I am already really excited about next season and I feel that the combination of the team, the bike and myself and James as team-mates puts us in a really good position ready for when the season kicks off. I have ridden Kawasakis for most of my career so this is the ideal fit for me and a good chance to have another go at making the Showdown. Myself and James were team-mates in 2002 and it is good for us to be working together again because he is a race winning and championship contending rider and that will only stoke the Stalker fire when we get on track!"

GBmoto Racing Team Principal Mark Smith-Halvorsen concluded: "This really is a 'game changer' for us as a team. We see the link with Kawasaki as fantastic on a number of levels, which really excites me. Technically, the bikes are second to none and I believe this will produce a huge jump forward in terms of results. To have been able to sign riders of the quality of James and Chris is another big shot in the arm for us; they bring with them a wealth of experience and know what it takes to fight at the front. There's lots of excitement about the camp and much work to be done, but the whole team is raring to go!"
