First Mini Festival coming to Oulton Park

Friday, July 11 2014

Britain's favourite little car will be celebrated at Oulton Park on Saturday 12 July when the Cheshire circuit hosts its first ever Mini Festival.

The event has grown from the hugely successful Brands Hatch Mini Festival, which began in 2012 and attracts hundreds of Mini owners.

A full timetable of 11 races will be complemented by an assortment of off-track entertainment that includes stunt driver Russ Swift, taster driving lessons for 11-17-year-olds, live music, and the opportunity for Mini owners to take to the circuit themselves at the day's conclusion in a special parade lap.

One  highlight of the racing is the appearance of two-time Le Mans-winning Aston Martin works driver Darren Turner, who will be driving a Mini Cooper S.

Minis new and old will be in action, the newest and fastest of which are part of the Power Maxed MINI Challenge. A free public gridwalk will give fans the chance to meet the drivers and get up close to cars of the MINI Challenge minutes before their second race of the day. The Scottish Mini Cooper Cup brings more new MINIs to the Cheshire circuit for a pair of races.

The earliest Minis are saved for the Kent Cams Cup, open to Minis produced prior to 1966. Original Minis also compete in the Mini Miglia and Se7en championships.

World-renowned stunt driver Russ Swift headlines the off-track entertainment, performing his spectacular show throughout the day in his MINI Cooper S. The rally stage will be the scene of some equally impressive car control, with rally-prepared Minis tackling Oulton Park's asphalt course.

Live music from Manchester duo The Distance, a large trade village featuring some of the biggest names in the world of Mini, and a special Mini display will keep Festival-goers entertained, while younger Mini fans can get behind the wheel with the innovative YoungDrive! taster sessions. A DSA-approved instructor will introduce early-learner 11-17-year-old drivers to the basics of motoring in the 15-minute sessions, which will be available to book on the day.

Mini owners will cap the inaugural Oulton Park Mini Festival with a parade around the circuit, and owners are encouraged to join the large display by taking advantage of special discounted tickets. There is more at oultonpark.mini-festival.co.uk/mini-owners.
