Help Belcher out of the woods and onto the Oulton Park BTCC grid!

Wednesday, May 14 2014

BTCC newcomer Simon Belcher is appealing to fans to help his efforts to get back onto the grid at Oulton Park next month (7-8 June).

Belcher, who has scored a handful of points in the BTCC Independents standings this year, has adapted well to the step-up from Renault Clios, but operating on a limited budget in his first year in BTCC, his season was turned upside down quite literally after a terrifying shunt in the third race at Thruxton two weeks ago.

A suspension failure at the quickest corner of the track, Church, plunged his car off the road at 130mph. After scrubbing off a minimal amount of speed, his Toyota Avensis ploughed through a tyre wall at high velocity, rolling his car into the wooded area beyond it, with the car coming to rest only after flattening a 15-foot tree.

With the impact heavily damaging the car and its shell, and with limited budget, Belcher faces a race against time to get his vibrantly liveried car back onto the grid at Oulton Park.

"The support from the fans has been astounding" Belcher told BTCC.net. "Our budget to repair the car will be stretched hugely but the fans have already come up with ideas to sell t-shirts and others want to buy signed parts of the car.

"The phenomenal fan power has really blown my mind. The fact that the BTCC fans want to help is completely overwhelming. I'm not one of the front-runners nor have I even been in the series for that long, but the fans want to see everyone out there - it's an inspiration and it really drives me on."
