Bridewell: “The riders behind us are the danger men”

Wednesday, September 02 2015

Tommy Bridewell holds fourth place in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship standings ahead of Oulton Park but the Tyco BMW rider is confident that he can secure a Title Fighter position for the third time after the three races this weekend (4/5/6 September).

Bridewell scored a victory at the Cheshire circuit back in May and knows that the chasing pack are closing in - with a maximum 75 points available this weekend from the three races he can't afford to give an inch. Stuart Easton is just two points behind in fifth place whilst team-mate Michael Laverty arrives in Cheshire a further 13 points adrift in sixth position.

The Tyco BMW rider is fully focused on the task ahead of him and admits that once he has his place confirmed he will be pushing to help his team-mate Michael Laverty also make the cut in the battle for the final four places this weekend.

Bridewell said: "I am definitely looking forward to Oulton Park as we showed good speed and pace earlier in the year. I expect that the times will be a bit quicker over one lap pace so I think qualifying will be stronger but race pace should be similar to when we were there before.

"We have improved the bike to make it stronger and hopefully we will have some new bits too. We had an up and down year so far, but we had a fourth at Thruxton and a third at Cadwell Park with the pressure of the Showdown as well. That is what I put on myself because we know we can be strong there [Oulton Park] and the ideal goal would be if we could confirm our place in the Showdown after the first race on Saturday but it is important to get a big points haul.

"There was a point earlier in the season where we had some silly crashes on the front but we have worked on that area and since then it hasn't been something I have complained about. At that point I wasn't sure if I was going to even make the top six but we kept our head down and now we have a really good chance.

"All the riders behind us are the danger men, the focus for them is probably on Michael [Laverty] right now as he is in sixth place and to gain points on me will take some doing! The aim for us is to have both Tyco BMWs in the Showdown so if I get confirmed then I will be helping Michael if I can to make sure we are both in by the end of the weekend."
