Haslam holds off Ellison and Shakey in final free practice

Sunday, May 01 2016

Leon Haslam was back at the top of the times in the final free practice session at Oulton Park as the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider waited until the closing moments of the wet session to set the fastest lap ahead of this afternoon's Datatag Extreme Qualifying session.

The session started with Richard Cooper setting the initial benchmark for the Buildbase BMW team, but then after sitting out the early stages, Shane 'Shakey' Byrne put in a faster lap on only his third attempt to move to the top of the times for Be Wiser Ducati.

Haslam was holding second position though and the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider was pushing and closing the gap, moving ahead in the final minutes as his team-mate James Ellison also set his best lap to move second, displacing Byrne back to third.

Dan Linfoot was fourth fastest for Honda Racing ahead of Tommy Bridewell who fired the Bennetts Suzuki into fifth with his final run to push Danny Buchan and Glenn Irwin back into sixth and seventh places respectively.

Ryuichi Kiyonari made it two Bennetts Suzukis in the top ten with Lee Jackson and Michael Laverty completing the ten fastest riders on track.

John Hopkins ended his session prematurely when he crashed out unhurt at Hizzys in the final ten minutes of the session, finishing 19th for the ePayMe Yamaha team.
