Lamborghini and Bentley take GT poles at Oulton Park

Saturday, May 28 2016

Machines from Lamborghini and Bentley will start the British GT races on bank holiday Monday (30 May) from pole position, following a very tight split qualifying session this afternoon (Saturday). Jon Minshaw took pole in the first qualifying session, for amateur drivers, in his Barwell Motorsport-prepared Lamborghini Huracan, before Seb Morris topped the pro times in the second session for Bentley.

Lamborghini will be delighted with the results of the first session as Liam Griffin completed a one-two for the Italian marque in the sister car, with Morris's co-driver Rick Parfitt Jr tucked behind in third position. Derek Johnston continued his impressive early-season form, following back-to-back wins alongside Jonny Adam in TF Sport's Aston Martin Vantage, whilst Alasdair McCaig completed the top-five in his Ecurie Ecosse McLaren.

It will be an exclusively British front row for the second race, following a pro qualifying session which saw Morris tailed by Rob Bell in the McLaren. Minshaw's driving partner Phil Keen completed an impressive performance for Lamborghini by qualifying third, whilst Ross Gunn and Jonny Adam ensured that Aston Martins would line up fourth and fifth.

The times were astonishingly close in both sessions, with the top two in both groups separated by less than four-hundredths-of-a-second.

Graham Johnson claimed first race GT4 pole position in Optimum Motorsport's Ginetta G55, before his co-driver Mike Robinson followed him up in the second session to guarantee double pole position.
