Oulton Park set for Vintage Festival thrills

Thursday, May 12 2016

Oulton Park will roll back the years with the Vintage Festival on Saturday 21 May, which will feature a retro race programme from the Vintage Sports-Car Club (VSCC), plus a host of equally nostalgic non-racing attractions.

The VSCC race line-up will feature stunning cars, harking back to an exciting age of pioneering and innovation in motoring. Many of these cars were built at a time prior to the establishment of conventional modern motoring, meaning that you can watch a truly diverse selection of machines, many of which possess their own unique quirks and engineering solutions.

Headline action will be supplied by the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy race for pre-1961 racing cars, whilst other highlight will include races starring Edwardian cars, stunning voiturettes, and a mixture of pre-and-inter-war sports and Grand Prix cars.

It'll be worth taking a closer look at the cars in the open paddock too, where you can meet the teams and drivers and find out more about the cars. Many of the appearing machines will have their own interesting back stories, featuring appearances at the Le Mans 24 Hours race or Mille Miglia. And, who knows, perhaps you'll encounter a car that was driven by one of pre-war Grand Prix racing's greats such as Tazio Nuvolari!

There will be plenty to capture the imagination away from the on-track feast too, including a static Supermarine Spitfire display with a difference. Whilst the iconic World War II aircraft won't be taking to the skies, it will be firing up its Merlin engine for demonstrations throughout the day. Older planes will take to the skies too with a vintage air display at lunch time.

Guests are encouraged to relax and indulge at the Pimms and Cream Tea Tent, whilst other attractions will include a funfair, live jazz music, and extensive classic and vintage car displays.

Tickets for the Vintage Festival at Oulton Park are available online now for £19 with free entry for under-13s and discounted admission for 13-15-year-olds. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
