Wide-open BTCC battle heads to Oulton Park this June

Tuesday, May 10 2016

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Oulton Park this June (4/5), following a dramatic weekend at Thruxton that has blown the championship race wide open.

Former champion Andrew Jordan became the seventh different driver to record a victory this year, whilst his Motorbase team-mate Mat Jackson and WIX Racing's Adam Morgan both recorded their second wins of the season.

Blackburn's Morgan now heads to his home circuit just three points off the championship lead, which is currently a tie between Honda's Matt Neal and WSR's Rob Collard. Furthermore, eight drivers are within 21 points at the head of the title standings, and with a maximum of 22 on offer in each race, expect plenty of drama at Oulton Park!

Two local teams have enjoyed strong starts to the year and are aiming to celebrate in style at their home race. Ciceley Racing runs the WIX and Laser Tools Mercedes A-Class cars of Morgan and Aiden Moffat, whilst Northwich's Speedworks have enjoyed success with new race-winner and double polesitter Tom Ingram.

Oldham's Kelvin Fletcher will also be pumped-up for a good result at his home track, having enjoyed his strongest finish yet in the Thruxton finale. The Emmerdale star has entered the BTCC with no testing, yet is on the verge of scoring his first points in the championship next month.

Oulton Park is also expected to mark a turning point for the Subaru team, which is expected to test the Levorgs for the first time outside of a race meeting before Oulton Park. Colin Turkington and Jason Plato are multiple winners at Oulton Park, and the Cheshire circuit's layout traditionally favours rear-wheel-drive cars, so expect to see the cars exploit more of their huge potential.

In addition to three BTCC races, Oulton Park will also host rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Renault UK Clio Cup, Ginetta GT4 Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and British Formula 4. The event will also include a free BTCC pitwalk and autograph session, live music, funfair and trade village, and the weekend is renowned for a festival atmosphere with a lively campsite.
