Local residents help Oulton Park raise community funds

Wednesday, March 01 2017

Local residents raised over £2,000 for St Peter's Church, Little Budworth at Oulton Park on Sunday 19 February.

Participants were encouraged to walk, run or cycle the Cheshire venue's hallowed tarmac, which has challenged motorsport greats including Sir Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Sir Jack Brabham and John Surtees, as well as nurturing talents such as James Hunt, Barry Sheene, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton.

The church, which is located less than a mile from the circuit's main entrance, even laid on a different kind of service in the pitlane, with a full choir helping Sunday worshippers.

The event was organised by Stuart Smith and John and Rosemary Scott of St Peter's Church.

Stuart Smith, said, "We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of Oulton Park. Ian Clover and Paramedic John were so helpful from start to finish, yesterday. We had over 110 people at 'Church in the Pits' in one of the garages, and we enjoyed a fantastic performance by members of Cheshire Fire Service Choir.

"We had over 200 people walk, run or cycle throughout the day. All of whom enjoyed the refreshments and there was genuine delight on their faces when they were presented with a certificate and medal. We have doubled numbers from last year's event and everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed the day; the sun was even shining for us."
