Trio of epic races at Oulton Park as BTCC stuns once more

Sunday, June 10 2018

There were three different winners at Oulton Park, as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship put on its usual thrill a minute triple header of awesome racing action.

Matt Simpson converted his first pole into a maiden victory in race one, leading every lap but having to fend off a late challenge from Tom Chilton, who brought Andrew Jordan along with him, the threesome separated by just 0.630s at the flag.

Colin Turkington then claimed an emotional victory in race two, his first of the year, which he immediately dedicated to his mother who passed away last week. With Simpson missing the race due to engine issues, Turkington made up places from the start and was into second early on, but it was his textbook pass by then leader Tom Chilton that secured the deal.

A BMW 1-2-3 rounded out the day's action in a dramatic final encounter which had to be restarted after a multiple collision on the start line. Rob Collard triumphed in the shortened race, heading home Andrew Jordan and Turkington, who now leads the championship by 12 points over Adam Morgan, who was the leader entering the weekend.

Turkington commented at the end of the weekend: "It feels great to be top of the pile. It's been such a strong weekend for Team BMW. It's only normally Croft where we can match this kind of result but all three West Surrey Racing cars were in the groove, so it's a big pat on the back for the guys behind the scenes doing all the engineering. We've got the easy job bar the heat! It's a nice thought leading the championship into Croft but we go there with a heavy car. We hope we'll be able to get a few more points in the bag. I think we've all earned a cool beverage today!"

The next MSV round of the BTCC is at Snetterton on 28-29 July, featuring a special 60 mile anniversary race. For more information and to book tickets, click here
