Works Toyota for Tom Ingram in 2019 BTCC

Wednesday, November 28 2018

Toyota will return to the Kwik Fit British Touring Championship as a full factory team in 2019, with reigning two-time Independent Champions Speedworks Motorsport joining the manufacturer ranks with Tom Ingram as its driver.

The outfit will rebrand as Team Toyota GB with Speedworks Motorsport, and switch from a Toyota Avensis to the all-new Corolla, which is due to take to UK roads next year.

Ingram was a narrow runner-up in this year's BTCC, finishing just shy of a maiden BTCC crown, and the 25-year-old will head up Toyota's 2019 series efforts in a single-car entry. The manufacturer is aiming to expand to two cars in the future.

The presence of the Corolla adds the name of the best-selling car in history to the grid, and allows the manufacturer to build on its saloon car racing heritage. Chris Hodgetts memorably claimed back-to-back championship titles in a Corolla GT Coupé in 1986/87, and Team Toyota GB remained a front-running force in the series through to the popular 1990s Super Touring era.

The 2019 BTCC season will begin at Brands Hatch (Indy) on 6/7 April, ahead of additional stops at MSV's venues at Donington Park, Oulton Park, and Snetterton. The championship will then conclude on the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit again in October.

Tickets for all five BTCC rounds at MSV circuits are on sale now, and would make a perfect Christmas gift idea for the petrol head in your life. Furthermore, admission and camping prices are frozen at 2018 levels until 31 December 2018. For more information, click here or call 0843 453 9000.
