Oulton Park World Rally Championship stage revealed

Wednesday, June 19 2019

MotorSport Vision (MSV) Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer revealed how the World Rally Championship (WRC) will use Oulton Park ahead of the Cheshire circuit hosting the opening stage of Wales Rally GB on Thursday 3 October.

This returns the UK round of the championship to an established racing circuit for the first time since 1999, with Oulton Park having last hosted WRC action in 1993.

Following a ceremonial launch outside the Cunard Building in Liverpool's city centre, this year's WRC contenders, including six-time reigning champion Sebastien Ogier, will head straight to Oulton Park to take on a bespoke 2.5-mile rally stage which utilises much of the Fosters circuit, plus some of the venue's intertior access roads.

The stage begins at Lodge corner and incorporates a water splash between Cascades and Knickerbrook before turning right on Clary Hill towards a finish on the venue's own rally stage area.

Speaking at a special event in Liverpool this afternoon, Palmer said: "I'm a great fan of rallying and we're really looking forward to seeing the sport back.  We're 45 minutes from Liverpool and Manchester and, because we're the first stage of the event, hopefully, none of the cars will have broken down or crashed before they get here!

"Being in the loose gravel suspension, the cars will be really subtle and really moving around. They're going to be really exciting to watch. We'll really be able to see the talent being demonstrated here.

"We've worked with Motorsport UK and Rally GB experts to come up with something truly unique, encompassing the best of both worlds. We'll use Lodge corner, through Old Hall and down to Cascades. From there we're onto a bit of gravel - not as much as Wales, but a bit - and then we come back onto Oulton Park's own rally stage.

"The good thing for us is that we're used to running motorsport events, we're capable of dealing with 10s of thousands of people. Parking's no problem, we've got plenty of disabled viewing points, there are big screens, live music. It's going to be one hell of an evening."

Whilst the stage will run competitively just the once, fans attending the Oulton Park event will get to see the cars take to the stage three times as the crews complete two recce runs.

Please note that Oulton Park and Four Wheel Season Passes are not valid for this event, but Residents' Passes will be.

Tickets for the Oulton Park special stage are available in advance only, priced £25 with free admission for children aged 15 and under. For more details and to book, click here.
