BMW's Andrew Jordan heads opening BTCC practice at Oulton

Saturday, May 20 2017

Andrew Jordan topped the opening session of this weekend's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Oulton Park today (Saturday), heading the Mercedes of local hero Adam Morgan and Jack Goff's Honda.

The opening session of the weekend took place with very light rain starting to fall, and with many teams electing to get as much running completed as possible, the top of the order saw local squads Ciceley and Speedworks performing well. Morgan led much of the session in his Mercedes A-Class, followed by Goff, who was continuing his strong run of Saturday practice sessions.

Tom Ingram was also performing well, his Toyota Avensis lapping with a full complement of success ballast. Of the rear-wheel-drive cars which are expected to challenge for this weekend's wins, Subaru seemed to be enjoying a revival, with Jason Plato, Ash Sutton and James Cole at the sharp end of the action, whilst Colin Turkington, Rob Collard and Jordan's BMWs were also turning in competitive lap times.

The Fords of Josh Cook and Mat Jackson spent much time in the top ten, with the former an excellent fourth overall. With the rain intensifying a little there weren't too many changes at the top of the order, but late on, Jordan found enough grip to move up to second place behind Morgan, then improved again to top the session just before the chequered flag was shown.

In fifth place, Cole was the fastest Subaru driver to end an encouraging session for the Liverpudlian, who headed the next-best performing rear-wheel-drive car, Collard's BMW. Ingram, Sutton, Mat Jackson and Aiden Moffat completed the top ten.

The second practice session is scheduled to take place at 12.45pm.
