BTCC FP1: Local star Oliphant tops opening Oulton Park session

Saturday, July 31 2021

Local driver Tom Oliphant topped the tables in the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at Oulton Park this morning (Saturday), lapping the Island circuit in 1m33.697s in damp conditions.

Gordon Shedden was second quickest in his Honda Civic Type R from Oliphant's Team BMW teammates Colin Turkington and Stephen Jelley. Tom Chilton rounded out the top five in one of Ciceley Motorsport's BMW 330i M Sports to ensure the German manufacturer's machines took four of the top five positions.

Next up were the three Laser Tools Racing Infiniti Q50s, with Aiden Moffat the first of these in sixth. Former Hot Rod World Champion Carl Boardley was next, just ahead of reigning champion Ashley Sutton in a strong session for rear-wheel-drive machinery.

Jake Hill ran ninth in his MB Motorsport Ford Focus from Chris Smiley's Hyundai to complete the top-ten.
