BTCC Race 2: Butcher takes first 2021 win at Oulton Park

Sunday, August 01 2021

Rory Butcher drove to his first win of the 2021 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park this afternoon, his maiden success in Toyota Gazoo Racing UK colours.

Butcher earned his position at the front of the field with a stunning opening lap from fourth on the grid. Firstly, he passed Adam Morgan's BMW with a bold move around the outside at Cascades as the field flowed doen the hill for the first time.

Then it was a case of passing the two front-row starting Hondas of Gordon Shedden and race one winner Daniel Rowbottom. Butcher dispatched the pair into one corner with a daring move inside the pair of them at the Island hairpin.

Once at the head of the field, Butcher extended his advantage and cruised home in front of his team's home crowd.

Behind him, Rowbottom continued his impressive form to take second after holding off race-long pressure from Morgan. For both drivers it was a second visit to the rostrum of the day with one race still to go.

Jake Hill was quietly impressive on his way to fourth position, reinforcing his status as a genuine championship frontrunner in the MB Motorsport Ford Focus. Aiden Moffat produced another fine drive too, holding off fellow Scotsman Shedden to complete the top-five after the latter was shuffled down the order late on.

Ashley Sutton made gains to rise to eighth but he wasn't quite able to make a pass on Stephen Jelley, the BMW driver finshing seventh. Senna Proctor and Tom Ingram completed the top-10.
