BTCC race 2: Ingram does the double at Oulton Park

Sunday, June 12 2022

Hyundai driver Tom Ingram made it two wins from two races, as he won the second Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Oulton Park.

From pole position, he made another good start and led every lap again, as he headed home reigning champion Ash Sutton's Ford Focus by just under a second.

Sutton applied pressure to Ingram for the whole race, having rebuffed an opening lap challenge from Toyota's Rory Butcher, who fell into the clutches of BMW's Colin Turkington, and was passed by the Northern Irishman on lap eight around the outside of Island Bend.

Butcher had to settle for fourth ahead of Gordon Shedden's Honda Civic, who had been demoted on the grid for his part in an incident with Adam Morgan in race one. Shedden blasted past Dan Cammish on lap 10 to take fifth, with Cammish sixth ahead of BMW's Jake Hill, who moved past Dan Lloyd's Hyundai exiting Island Bend on lap 13.

Lloyd took eighth with championship leader Josh Cook ninth in his Honda Civic holding off a train of cars at the line including Toyota's Ricky Collard, who completed the top-10, Aiden Moffat's Infiniti Q50, and BMW's Stephen Jelley.

Michael Crees took 13th in his Vauxhall Astra ahead of Bobby Thompson's Cupra Leon with teammate Aron Taylor-Smith completing the points scorers, just two tenths of a second ahead of BMW's Adam Morgan, who stormed from 29th on the grid to 16th.

Ingram's win means he draws equal on points with Cook at the top of the standings, heading into the final race of the weekend.

The third and final Kwik Fit BTCC race of the weekend is due to commence at 17.10.
