Christian Olsen commits to Fortec Motorsport for 2020 BRDC British F3 Championship

Friday, February 28 2020

Danish driver Christian Olsen has been confirmed as Fortec Motorsport's first driver signing for the 2020 BRDC British F3 Championship.

Olsen is no stranger to Formula 3 machinery, having won the FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup at Zandvoort for two years running, while also competing in contemporary LMP3 racing throughout Europe.

The 23-year-old's career commenced with karting in Germany in 2009, moving up to the ADAC Kart Masters series in the X30 Junior and IAME X30 categories in 2010 and 2011. He then graduated to the X30 Senior division in 2012, and raced in the X30 Euro Challenge in 2012 and 2013.

After concentrating on his studies, he returned to racing in 2016, making his debut in Historic Formula 3, taking a front row position in his first qualifying session, and taking four podiums across the season.

Remaining in Historic F3 for 2017, he competed in the famous Oldtimer GP at the Nurburgring, winning both races, while also commencing his LMP3 career with a number of testing opportunities.

The following season he made his LMP3 race debut, competing in the European Le Mans Series in an Ecurie Ecosse/Nielsen Racing Ligier JS P3. Partnered with Alex Kapadia and Colin Noble, the trio finished fourth overall in the standings, with second place finishes at the Red Bull Ring, Silverstone and Portimao. He also competed in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with the team at selected events.

He gained further sportscar experience after remaining with the team to compete in the 2018-19 Asian Le Mans Series, finishing fifth overall with second place at Sepang being the highlight, while also returning to the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup categories for 2019, switching to the RLR Msport team.

Now focusing on a contemporary single-seater campaign for the first time, Olsen commented: "I'm looking forward to competing in BRDC British F3 with Fortec Motorsports this season. It's a big change from my career trajectory so far, which has been mainly in sportscars and Historic F3, but modern single seater experience is vital for any career and this is a very important move for my future."

Fortec Motorsports Team Manager Russell Dixon added: "We've had some promising test days with Christian in recent months and are very pleased to confirm he'll be racing with us in BRDC British F3 with us this year. He's had a varied career, his experience should come in handy and we expect him to make strong progress with us as the season goes on."
