Ferrari Challenge UK season draws to fabulous conclusion

Saturday, October 02 2021

The third season of the Ferrari Challenge UK Championship came to a stunning conclusion at Oulton Park this weekend (1-2 October), with two champions crowned.

The two headline 30-minute races featuring Ferrari 488 machinery provided plenty of excitement as the title fights reached their crucial point. Saturday's contest was decided by less than half a second, with Graham de Zille victorious from James Swift, while Paul Hogarth completed the podium.

Behind, there was a near photo finish as Andie Stokoe held off Faisal Al-Faisal by just a tenth of a second!

Swift's second place ensured he won the Trofeo Pirelli class, while de Zille's triumph meant he was the winner of the Coppa Shell division.

The second event on Sunday went the way of Han Sikkens, with Swift and Hogarth on the podium once more as the season came to a superb conclusion, with de Zille fourth this time around.

One again, the racing was highly entertaining, impressing onlookers including MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer who was present in Cheshire to witness the final battle.

Hikkens won by nearly three seconds, but didn't have it all his own way, as he held off Swift in the first two thirds of the race. The pair were separated by around half a second for much of this time, with the gap only extending after a late safety car.

Swift won five of the eight races he contended in 2021, and ultimately got the upper hand in the season-long championship fight with Lucky Khera. After missing the Brands Hatch season opener, he got to grips with the new 488 machinery and scored five consecutive wins that allowed him to close down a 19 point deficit to Khera and overtake him at the top of the standings during the final weekend.

De Zille meanwhile was dominant in the Coppa Shell, taking eight wins, eight pole positions and eight fastest laps across the year.
