Keen/Minshaw Lamborghini storms to the top of British GT FP2

Saturday, March 31 2018

Phil Keen and Jon Minshaw will carry the momentum into this afternoon' British GT Championship qualifying sessions, after topping the final practice session overall in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The duo, who won both GT races at this event last year topped the time sheets with a time of 1m33.829s.

Will Burns and Mike Newbould were top of the charts in the GT4 class in their HHC Motorsport Ginetta G55 by the close of the hour-long, thrice interrupted practice period.

Practice was red-flagged three times following separate incidents involving the Johnny Cocker and Sam De Haan's Lamborghini, Stephen Johansen and Jesse Anttila's Nissan 370Z, and the McLaren 570S of Jordan Albert and Lewis Proctor.

At the top of the table, Keen headed Mercedes works driver Yelmer Buurman's late effort by half a second, with the Aston Martin of Derek Johnston and Marco Sorensen in third.

Jonny Adam and Flick Haigh, who topped the earlier practice session were seventh by the end of the hour, whilst reigning champion Rick Parfitt Jr and co-driver Ryan Ratcliffe put their Bentley in 10th position.

British GT Championship, Free Practice One, Result

2, Mowle/Buurman, Mercedes-AMG, +0.562s
3, Johnston/Sorensen, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, +0.676s
4, Machitski/Kujala, Lamborghini Huracan, +0.836s
5, Davidson/Martin, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, +0.887s

The grids for Monday's two British GT races will be determined by a split, four-part qualifying session late this afternoon with the timings as following:

15:55                    British GT Championship GT Am qualifying
16:09                    British GT Championship GT Pro qualifying
16:23                    British GT Championship GT4 Am qualifying
16:38                    British GT Championship GT4 Pro qualifying

The two Am classes are for the grid's gentleman drivers and their afternoon qualifying times will set the grid positions for Monday's opening race. The Pro classes will star the full-time racing professionals, whose times will determine the starting order for race two.

The British GT cars will star in two races on Easter Monday, each an hour in duration, with pit-stops driver changes, and plenty of drama.
