Oulton Park unveils barnstorming 2016 calendar

Tuesday, February 23 2016

Oulton Park's 2016 calendar has been confirmed, with major championships and themed events headlining a schedule of nearly 30 meetings running almost every weekend from March until November. Tickets for many of these are now on sale from £10, with free entry to under-13s at all events.

The Cheshire circuit will host several major national championships this season, including a pair of visits from the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. Triple champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne will be out to regain his crown, but faces opposition that includes returning World Superbike star Leon Haslam, plus crowd favourites Ryuichi Kiyonari, John Hopkins and many more. The competitors will first appear on May Bank Holiday weekend (30 April - 2 May), the second round of the 2016 season, and return on 9-11 September for a crucial weekend which will determine the 'Showdown Six' riders who will go on to fight for the 2016 title.

The British Touring Car Championship returns to Cheshire on 4/5 June, and Oulton Park traditionally hosts the championship's best-attended round. Local eyes will be on Blackburn's Adam Morgan as he battles reigning champion Gordon Shedden and Honda team-mate Matt Neal, plus rivals Jason Plato and Colin Turkington, now racing for Subaru, Motorbase Ford pairing Andrew Jordan and Mat Jackson, and many more.

The season will get underway with the brand new family-themed Easter Funday event on Monday 28 March. Activities will include children's entertainers, village games including a jousting demonstration, a giant Easter Egg hunt, funfair and classic car displays. Visitors will also be able to try Oulton Park's rally, 4x4 and YoungDrive activities in addition to racing on the track, and demonstration runs from 90s Formula 1 cars.

Oulton Park will also host two major nostalgic events this season including the Gold Cup on Summer Bank Holiday weekend (27-29 August), with racing from 1960s Grand Prix cars and 1990s Super Touring cars plus much more, including off-track entertainment. A pre-war era will also be recalled at the Vintage Festival on 21 May, with vintage car racing and a period atmosphere off-track, including a WWI dogfight air display.

Mini fans will rejoice at the return of the popular Mini Festival on 20 August, and there's a new event for Volkswagen owners and enthusiasts, Dubworth, on 7/8 May. Both will feature a feast of off-track entertainment in addition to themed races.

Other highlights include high-speed thrills from British GT supercars and the BRDC Formula 4 Championship featuring the racing stars of tomorrow on Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend (28 & 30 May), plus the spectacular modified machines of TunerFest North on 9 July. The 2016 season closes with sideways thrills and spectacular pyrotechnics at the popular Rally and Fireworks event on Guy Fawkes Night (5 November).

Tickets for many 2016 events at Oulton Park are now on sale from £10, with free entry for under-13s.
