Oulton Park set for British GT Easter bonanza

Friday, March 23 2018

Oulton Park's 2018 major events calendar kicks off with the British GT Championship and BRDC British F3 Championship on Easter weekend (Saturday 31 March and Monday 2 April).

Track action will be headlined by a packed grid of more than 30 exotic British GT supercars, in two races on Bank Holiday Monday. Star cars will include stunning machines from local manufacturer Bentley, plus Aston Martin, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, and other prestige manufacturers.

British GT races are mouth-watering affairs, as the flame-spitting cars battle for an hour, with pit stops, driver changes, and plenty of drama.

This year's grid includes a number of high-profile drivers, including Oldham-born actor Kelvin Fletcher, who is best known for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale. Fletcher is returning to the British GT Championship for a second season behind the wheel of a Nissan 370Z, following a previous stint in the British Touring Car Championship.

Crewe-based manufacturer Bentley will be represented by reigning British GT Champion Rick Parfitt Jr, son of the legendary Status Quo rocker. Parfitt was victorious for the local marque at the Tarporley circuit two years ago, so has a record of recent success at the venue.

Other high profile drivers include five members of Aston Martin's Le Mans 24 Hours driver line-up, including former British Touring Car racer Darren Turner, past British GT Champion Jonny Adam, and superstar foreign drivers Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen, and Maxime Martin.

Action will be co-headlined by three races from the BRDC British F3 Championship, which is firmly established as the UK's leading single-seater championship. The grid will be filled with top talents, aiming to impress on the path to Grand Prix glory!

Aside from the racing, there will be plenty more for families to enjoy, including one of the biggest Italian car displays you'll see in the north of England this year. These will range from Ferraris to Lamborghinis, De Tomasos, and Maserati.

This year's car displays will include a special 60th anniversary Ginetta display, celebrating the British manufacturer's heritage ahead of its Le Mans 24 Hours entry later this year.

Other key attractions will include circus skill workshops, balloon modelling, and a games arena. Plus, there will be opportunities to take to the track with Scalextric racing - there's plenty of incentive to get competitive too, with the fastest racer of the day winning a remote control Lamborghini!
