Haslam is super-hot in Oulton Park heat

Monday, May 07 2018

'Pocket Rocket' Leon Haslam took both Bennetts British Superbike Championship race wins at Oulton Park this afternoon to catapult himself to the top of the table above Bradley Ray and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne.

The same riders remain in the top three but Haslam's double victory shook up the order, with young hot-shot Bradley Ray pushed down to second and Byrne relegated to third. After a win in race one, Haslam started race two in pole and played cat-and-mouse with Jason O'Halloran for much of it.

He admitted he couldn't shake off the Australian after taking the lead on lap 12 and was relieved to cross the finish line.

"My board kept going up and up and up so I knew it was just me and him. I thought 'this is perfect', made my move, upped the pace by half a second and it just never went away. It's really hard, you never know how hard to push, and I thought if keep this rhythm then hopefully I'll break him and I never did but I managed to make it stick anyway.

"I went in a little bit deep on brakes and I could hear the Honda and he was really strong in a few areas compared to me. It was one of those that I was happy when I crossed the line because I don't think it was going anywhere," he said.

Haslam leads Ray by 14 points with Byrne a further three points behind. Bennetts BSB now enjoys a six-week break until it rolls into Snetterton in Norfolk from 15-17 June. More details here.
