Brookes does the double at Bank Holiday BSB

Monday, May 06 2019

It was a case of déjà vu at Oulton Park this afternoon as Josh Brookes, Tommy Bridewell and Danny Buchan finished 1-2-3 in both round two Bennetts British Superbike Championship races.

Brookes produced two sublime wins, leading the pack from start to finish and putting his disappointing zero point-scoring opening weekend of the season at Silverstone firmly behind him. Bridewell ran him close in race one but Brookes got a great start and rode an even better second race at the Cheshire circuit to pick up maximum points.

"I saw my lap times were really fast but Tom was staying right with me. I knew that one of us was going to have to break but finally I was able to get a little buffer and then it kind-of crept out so it made the end of the race a bit easier for me so I didn't have to defend my line on the last laps, I could just bring it home.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to the garage to celebrate a little bit with the crew and they can stop beating themselves up now about Silverstone so we'll move on from here," he said.

Bridewell is now joint championship leader and said he planned to push on at the next round at Donington Park.

"It just bodes well for the championship to be honest, the way it's all shaping up. Like I said last week, I genuinely am here to fight for the championship. I have the package, I have the bike so we just need to keep consistent, keep getting podium credits and hopefully at Donington go that one better."
