Strong BRC entry for Oulton Park season opener

Friday, May 28 2021

Oulton Park's Neil Howard Stages won't just include the entries from the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship but also, for the first time, a strong entry from the  Motorsport UK British Rally Championship (BRC) will head to the Cheshire circuit on Monday 31 May.

No fewer than 45 BRC contenders are set to take to the stages as the respected rally championship holds its opening round at a purpose-built race circuit for the first time in its 63-year history.

Entries to look out for will include two-time British Rally Champion Matt Edwards, who is aiming to claim an unprecedented third successive title. Edwards and usual co-driver Darren Garrod will enter a Volkswagen Polo GTi for 2021, having previously been associated with Ford machinery.

Others hoping to impress will include Rhys Yates/James Morgan and Seb Perez/Gary McElhinney in a two-strong Ford Fiesta entry from the successful M-Sport team. Another Fiesta will be driven by series newcomer Frank Bird and co-driver Jack Morton, as the former dovetails his GT racing career with domestic rallying.

Welshman Osian Pryce will be an experienced campaigner to look out for in his VW, alongside co-driver Noel O'Sullivan, whilst Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes lead a hugely impressive Irish contingent which also include's Josh's brother Sam and navigator Keith Moriarty.

Garry Jennings makes his first foray into the BRC since the front-wheel-drive era in 2003, with other familiar names to rally fans including Ollie Mellors and Max Freeman, Desi and Niall Henry, James Wilson and Joe McGonigle, plus Stephen Petch and Thomas Preston.
